You often hear people in sushi bars ask for dry, or "karakuchi" sakes. But since sweetness is present in all sakes to a greater or lesser degree, what exactly does this mean?
We'll try 37 different sakes, from the winsomely sweet daiginjos of Kyoto to astringently dry junmai brewed in the "Noto Toji" tradition. During the final hour sakes are paired with signature Geisha House appetizers.
The Joy of Sake "Aftertaste" returns to LA on November 12 with an exploration of dry sake vs. sweet. The evening begins with a 10-minute talk, followed by a 40-minute sake tasting. After that it's appetizers, sake-sipping and conviviality for the final hour.
Reservations may be made on-line at the Aftertate Ticket Store or by calling Pua at 808-222-0915. Attendance is limited to 60 persons.
