This year’s sake-tasting season starts off at Mahina & Sun’s on the poolside lanai of the stylish Surfjack Hotel. There will be 50 labels for sampling, featuring award-winning entries from the 2016 U.S. National Sake Appraisal—and a sake-friendly appetizer selection to make them taste even better.
We’re excited to announce a special tasting at this More Joy event.
Koshi no Kanbai “Sai” makes its U.S. debut this Saturday at Mahina and Sun’s. This is the first new release from Niigata’s most famous brewery in 45 years, and has been the talk of the sake world in Japan.

Blue River—A modern expression of the “crisp and clean” Niigata style, but with an umami imprint that makes it undeniably Koshi no Kanbai. Elegantly smooth, subtly aromatic, with a satisfying finish. Gold Award 2016 U.S. National Sake Appraisal.

Koshi no Kanbai is credited with launching Japan’s regional sake boom in the 1970s. At a time when sakes everywhere were sweet and heavy, Koshi no Kanbai defined a clean, dry style that became wildly popular and set a new direction for the sake industry. It is fair to say that no brewery has had a greater influence on the sake-makers of today.
